Characterization of the biological activity of compounds of natural origin

Group
Climate change is affecting the growth, development and spread of plants in many areas of the planet. In particular, drought is an abiotic stress that is affecting ever larger areas and plant systems need a long time to adapt to extreme environmental conditions. One of the defense systems against abiotic stress is the increase in the synthesis of secondary metabolites. These molecules showed very interesting properties from a pharmacological point of view. Indeed, important biological activities have been demonstrated in in-vitro and in-vivo models of inflammation, oxidative stress and cell death. The objectives of this research group are: i) To identify and quantify secondary metabolites extracted from plant species subjected to abiotic stress through analytical systems; ii) To characterize the biological activity of phytoextracts derived from plants both in-vitro and in-vivo, in particular on models of oxidative stress and inflammation.
