BARABINO BENEDETTO

Benedetto Barabino is graduated, cum laude, at the University of Cagliari in Transport Engineering in July 2001. He earned his Ph.D. in transportation technology and economics from the University of Palermo in 2007. From 2003 to 2010 he was employd at the Technomobility consortium, a spin-off of the local public transport operator CTM of Cagliari also formed by the Fiat Research Center and two companies of the SARAS group (Akela and Sartec). From 2010 to 2016 he was general coordinator of Technomobility where he dealt with important projects on the quality and safety of public transport. From 2016 and 2019, he was head of the "Studies and Research" department of CTM SpA. Since 2019 he has been qualified as a professor for the Scientific Disciplinary Sector ICAR 05 - Transport and, currently, he is an assistant professor (tenure-track position) at the University of Brescia where he is the chair of Urban Mobility.
Combining professional activity and scientific research, his career has focused on the coordination and management of complex projects on intelligent transport systems applied to public transport as well as to the quality of service and safety that have enabled CTM company to be the first Italian company to achieve quality certification on its routes. His main research topics concern advanced public transportation systems, network planning, design, operation and service quality and fare evasion. Recently he is leading research on comfort on board public transport and on the safety of routes. At June 2021, he authored (co-authored) 44 journals articles, 20 conference papers, 26 book chapters, 1 curatorship and 2 books. Moroever, he holds an Italian patent on service quality. He is on the editorial board of 4 indexed international journals. He is reviewer for over 15 international sector journals including Transp. Res. A and B and IEEE Trans on Int Trans Sys. According to the Scopus, his impact indicators are 49 Documents; 402 citations; Index 12 h.
