Curriculum Vitae
Giovanni Metelli graduated in Civil Engineering at University of Brescia in 1999. in 2003 he received a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Trento, Italy. From 2003 to 2004 he has been research assistant at the Univesity of Brescia.
Giovanni Metelli has been Assistant Professor of Structural Engineering since January 2005 at the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture, Land and Environment (DICATA) of the University of Brescia, Italy where he teaches "Theory and Design or RC Structures" and "Theory and Design of Steel Structures and Timber Structures"
His research activity mainly concerns the structural rehabilitation, the behaviour of reinforced concrete structures and steel braced frames. As regarding the repairing of ancient wooden floors, he has been working, both experimentally and numerically, on the delamination problem of steel reinforcements glued to a timber beam and he has been studying the shear behaviour of timber elements under cycling moisture. The research work is addressed also to the seismic behaviour of precast concrete structures. He has been studying the interaction between the external concrete panels and the structure and the cycling behaviour of column-foundation joints for precast concrete moment resisting frames. He has studied theoretically and numerically the behaviour of such type of connection for precast structures.
His research interests are focused also on the study of local behaviours of concrete elements to better understand the diffusion phenomena influencing the overall behaviour of reinforced concrete structures: as a member of T.G. 4.5 “Bond Models” of the Fédération Internationale du Béton (fib) he has been studying experimentally and theoretically the influence of rib reinforcement on bond behaviour and the behaviour of splices. He worked also on the design of moment resisting steel structures with semi-rigid joints, on the the cyclic behaviour of x braced frames and buckling restrained braces.
