Research fields

1. Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cells (PDC): immunophenotype, functions, role in tumoral and non-tumoral diseases, diagnosis, molecular features of neoplasms derived form PDC. 2. Clinical, pathological and molecular analysis of subtypes of non-Hodgkin's and Hodgkin's lymphomas, with identification of new data on the molecular (mutation or gene expression) landscape and definition of rare entities. The contribution varies from pathological and experimental analysis to morpho-phenotypical and genotypical selection of samples enrolled in the studies. 3. Physiology and pathology of Follicular Dendritic Cells, study of tumor series and definition of novel diagnostic markers. 4. Identification in human lymph nodes of the cells expressing the Autoimmune Regulator (AIRE) tolerogenic transcription factor and discovery of their dendritic cell nature, subsequently confirmed by literature; studies of the distribution of AIRE positive cells in primary immunodeficiencies (PID). 5. Analysis of tissues from patients with Primary Immuno Deficiencies (PID) and PID mouse models. Identification of morphological and functional defects especially in lymphoid tissues and immune cells; studies of tumors occurring in PID patients. 6. The B-cell receptor in control of tumor B-cell fitness: Biology and clinical relevance. 7. Tumor markers with prognostic value in gynecological neoplasms. 8. Discovery of markers that are currently widely used in the diagnosis of hematological neoplasms (BDCA2/CD303, E-cadherin, CD2AP, NPM1) and other human tumors (CXCL13, BAP1, Claudin 4).
