Curriculum Vitae
Giovanna Longhi, born in Milano in 1959, Laurea Degree in Physics, University of Milano 1984 with 110/110 cum laude.
1986 fellowship from Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, 1987 felloship from "G. Natta" school at Politecnico di Milano, Prof. G.Zerbi group.
1992-1994 Researcher in Physical Chemistry at Univesita’ della Basilicata.
From 1/11/1995 researcher in Physics at Universita’ di Brescia.
From 1/3/2005 Associate Professor of Physics at the Università di Brescia.
Author of 50 scientific papers on international journals.
Areas of research: (1)Vibrational Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy in the near infrared range, systematic experimental studies of natural compounds: ketones, terpenes. Setting up models for calculating dipole and rotational strengths of overtones, to go beyond simple correlative studies.
(2) Vibrational circular dichroism spectroscopy in the mid-IR and in the CH-stretching region. Experimental and ab-initio predictions of spectra.
(3) Studies of molecule vibrational dynamics in presence of large anharmonicities: local mode model with electrical anharmonicity; Fermi resonance and Darling-Dennison resonance in the regime of normal modes.
(4) Vibrational spectroscopy (IR and Raman) of simple carbohydrates and isomerization dynamics of the glycosidic linkage.
(5)UV CD spectroscopy of polymers and organic molecules that are used in nonlinear optics: experiments and calculations.
(6)CD spectroscopy of biopolymers and peptides in aqueous solutions: MD simulations and CD spectral simulation thereof..
In 2001 and 2004 she has been local coordinator of the Research Unit of Brescia for two research projects "New theoretical and experimental methods for the assignment of the molecular absolute configuration in solution", financed by Ministero per l'Istruzione, l'Università e la Ricerca.
