Chiroptical spectroscopy lab.
Chiroptical instrumentations comprise: Polarimeter, Electronic Circular Dichroism (ECD) in the UV-VIS range (1100-185 nm), NIR-CD (1700-900 nm), FTIR-Vibrational Circular Dichroism, VCD (850-4000 cm-1 ≡ 2500-12000 nm), Fluorimeter and Circularly Polarized Luminescence (CPL) apparatuses, accessories for magnetic CD and magnetic CPL measurements.
The experimental activities are supported and paralleled by quantum-mechanical modeling mainly through Density Functional Theory calculations (DFT and TD-DFT) on local workstations and CINECA facilities with the use of packages like Gaussian16, Dalton, and ADF.
Applications:
Absolute configuration determination of drugs, natural products and organic molecules.
Characterization of conformational properties, solvent interactions, supramolecular structures, complexes, polymers, considering also different environments (solvents, surfactant, fibrils…) and different chemical-physical conditions (temperature, pH, voltage).
Secondary structure of proteins and their stability, DNA secondary structure, aggregation phenomena characterization, plasmonic CD, ligand binding characterization, etc.
