Born at Bergamo (Italy) on december 20, 1955. Graduated in Medicine summa cum laude at the University of Milan in 1981; Specialized in Microbiology at the University of Parma in 1985, summa cum laude. Recipient in 1983 of a grant from National Research Council (CNR) for specialization abroad which was spent at the Department of Virology of the University of Turku (Finland) where he took part in both diagnostic and research activities from June 1983 to march 1985. During these years he developed assays for both antibody and antigen detection. Assistant from march 1985 to march 1990 and senior assistant from march 1990 to october 1998 at the Laboratory of Virology of Spedali Civili of Brescia. Professor at the following Post doctoral schools of the University of Brescia: School of Microbiology and Virology since 1985, School of Infectious Diseases since 1989. Associate Professor of Microbiology at the School of Dentistry of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Brescia since november 1998. Recenty his research interest is in the field of oral and gastrointestinal diseases, HIV infection and viral hepatits. He co-operates with the Research Center for gastrointestinal infectious diseases of the University of Brescia.
