Born in Messina (Italy), on 26th February 1972, she graduated in Biological Sciences from the University of Padova and specialized in Medical Genetics at the Specialization School of University of Brescia. Researcher since 2005 at the Department of Experimental and Applied Medicine, Hygiene section, at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Brescia, she has been involved in molecular epidemiology studies with emphasis on interaction between gene and environmental factors in the development of liver cancer, and particularly on the role of some genetic polymorphisms as effect modifiers of tobacco smoking and alcohol drinking as causes of liver cancer through case-control study. Moreover research activities have concerned the role of genetic polymorphisms in heart failure and response to beta-blocker treatment. Actually she is involved in a multicenter cohort study to investigate some factors influencing the response to antiviral therapy and the progression of liver disease in chronic hepatitis patients. She has had 14 articles published in national and international journals and 38 abstracts at national and international meetings. Besides being involved in this scientific activity, she teaches Epidemiology and Public Health and Preventive Medicine in various schools for health professionals, including doctoral and post-doctoral medical schools at the Faculty of Medicine of Brescia University.
