BONTEMPI Elza

Prof. Elza Bontempi received a Ph.D. in Materials for Engineering in 2001. Since 2011 she is a full Professor in Fundamental Chemistry for Technologies.

Elza is a researcher with expertise in all the aspects connected with the circular economy, with an interdisciplinary skillset. Indeed, she has extensive knowledge about materials and eco-materials, because she focalized her research on sustainability innovation (e.g., alternatives to waste landfilling), strategic environmental management, and sustainable raw materials recovery. Moreover, she also contributed to developing new strategies to promote the circular economy diffusion, by proposing preliminary simplified approaches to LCA, mainly dedicated to SMEs and legislators. Finally, to advance the state of play about circular economy in higher education, she published a book about “Raw materials substitution sustainability” in 2017.

She was the scientific responsible for some European projects and several national projects. She is the author of more than 270 referred research papers including several reviews, 6 patents, and more than 200 conference presentations in the national and international area. She was the supervisor of several PhD and post-docs. She is the referee of several international journals.

She won several prizes, for example, Gaetano Marzotto prize in 2018, “Innovation Village Award” in 2019, the ENERGY GLOBE AWARD in 2020, and the EIT Raw Materials in 2022.
