Curriculum Vitae

EDUCATION AND POSITIONS

She graduated in Mathematics in 1980 at the University of Milan, was appointed Assistant professor in Operations Research in 1983 at the University of Milan and Associate professor in 1987 at the University of Udine. Since 1994 she is Full professor of Operations Research at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Brescia. From 1998 to 2000 she was President of the Research Council of the University of Brescia. From 2000 to 2002 she was Vice-president of the University of Brescia. From 2002 to 2008 she was Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Brescia. From 2008 to 2010 she has been on sabbatical and fully devoted to scientific activities.

TEACHING ACTIVITY

She has given several undergraduate courses, in particular Calculus, Operations Research, Basic computer science, Models for production systems, Supply chain management.

She has given courses for Master programs in "Supply chain management" and in ”Management of SME".

She is the coordinator of the PhD program in “Computational methods for economic and financial decision making”. She has given graduate courses in Mathematical programming.

SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY

The main areas of the scientific activity have been: resource allocation and project scheduling; logistics; portfolio optimization; combinatorial optimization; vehicle routing. She has mainly worked on mixed integer programming models, computational complexity, worst-case analysis, exact (branch-and-cut and branch-and-price) and heuristic algorithms.

She has carried out the scientific activity in collaboration with Italian and foreign colleagues and published joint papers with some of the best researchers at the international level. Among the foreign colleagues, she has done joint work with Hans Kellerer and Ulrich Pferschy of the University of Graz (Austria), Zsolt Tuza of the Hungarian Academy of Science - Budapest (Hungary), Dimitri Bertsekas of the Massachussets Institute of Technology (U.S.A.), Michel Gendreau, Gilbert Laporte and Alain Hertz of the University of Montreal (Canada), Martin Savelsbergh of the Georgia Institute of Technology (U.S.A.), Ann Chan of the University of Toronto (Canada). Recently, she started cooperation with Stefan Irnich (Mainz, Germany) , Francois Vanderbeck (Bordeaux, France), Angel Corberan (Valencia, Spain).

OTHER SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES

She is Associate Editor of Transportation Science, of 4OR, of the International Transactions of Operations Research, of Advances in OR. She is area editor for Logistics, Distribution, Inventory and Transportation of the Asia-Pacific Journal of Operational Research. She has been member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Transportation Research B.

She has served as referee for several international journals such as: IEE Transactions, European Journal of Operational Research, Annals of Operations Research, International Journal of Production Economics, Operations Research, Transportation Research, Computers and Operations Research, Omega, International Transactions in Operational Research, Control and Cybernetics, Algorithmica, Journal of Scheduling, Transportation Science.

She has coordinated several scientific projects, supported by the Ministry of University, by the National Research Council and by the European Union. In particular she has coordinated a project with 12 research groups in “Industrial logistics” in the framework of the Finalized Transportation Program 2 of the National Research Council.

She has been member of the Board of the Italian Operations Research Society from 1990 to 1996.

She has been member of the Executive Committee of the EURO (association of European Operational Research Societies) and vice-Presidente of IFORS (International Federation of Operations Research Societies), representing EURO, from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2009.

From January 1, 2010 she is President elect of EURO. From January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2012 she will be President of EURO.

She was member of the Review Committee of the "I.I.A.S.A. Study Agreement: Methodology and Software for Interactive Decision Support - Stage II", Sofia (Bulgaria), February 21-24, 1989.

She was member of the jury for the "Best TSL Dissertation Prize" in 2002.

She has been member of the jury of the “EURO Excellence in Practice Award" in 2007 and 2008 and chair of the jury in 2010.

She has been member of the jury of the "Best Transportation Science and Logistics Society (TSL) Dissertation Prize" of INFORMS (the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences) in 2002.

She has been member of the jury for the "Robert M. Herman Lifetime Achievement Award" of the INFORMS Transportation Science and Logistics Society (TSL) in 2007 and 2009.

She is member of the jury for the Francesco Paris Award of the EURO Working Group on Financial Modeling,

She has been member of the committees for the evaluation of PhD theses for foreign universities, such as Troyes (France), Trondheim (Norway), Lausanne (Switzerland), Lancaster (UK).

She has been stream organizer for the area 'Routing' for EURO 2009, July 6-9, 2009, Bonn (Germany) and stream organizer for the area 'Transportation' for IFORS 2011, July 11-15, 2011, Melbourne (Australia).

She has been invited to deliver lectures in several Italian and foreign universities, in particular:

She is author of more than 150 papers, among which 90 on international journals.
