Curriculum Vitae
Full Professor in Metallurgy in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DIMI), at the University of Brescia since 2019.
Assistant professor from 2014 to 2019 and from 2000 to 2013 assistant professor in Metallurgy in DIMI.
Since 2013 she’s also fly-in professor at the GUtech (German University of Technology – Oman) for Material Science courses.
She took her degree in Mechanical Engineering at University of Brescia in December 1997. From 1998 to 2000 she obtained a fellowship on Metallurgical Plants. She had the habilitation as Assistant professor in 2000 and from 2000 to 2014 she was Assistant Professor in Metallurgy at the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department - University of Brescia.
She’s member of the academic board of the DRIMI PhD program at the University of Brescia (since 2002), she’s chair for the section of Materials since 2017.
Since 2005 she’s tutor/advisor of PhD students and fellows.
Member of 4 International Scientific Committees:
- S2P - Semi-Solid Processing of Alloys and Composites (since 2010, member also of the organizing committee in 2014 and 2016),
- International Conference High Tech Diecasting (since 2016),
- International STEELSIM Conference (in 2015),

RESEARCH ACTIVITY
Since the enrolment, the research activity that has been articulated over the years on specific topics of the – Metallurgy field, as shown by the publications in scientific journals and conference. In particular, she is involved in:
- study of conventional and innovative foundry processes (mainly HPDC, LPDC, sand and gravity casting) from metallurgical, technological and also simulation of mold filling and casting solidification point of view;
- study and characterization of powders and components for additive manufacturing;
- treatment of alloys in liquid state (e.g. by ultrasound, developing a properly designed apparatus);
- study of rheological behavior of alloys in liquid and semi-solid state;
- development and characterization of standard and new non ferrous alloys (3 patents about zinc alloys);
- semi-solid processing of non ferrous alloys;
- correlation between mechanical properties and microstructure;
- characterization of thin films,
- failure analysis of metallic components;
- simulation of innovative heat treatments (e.g. spray cooling for heavy forging);
- etc.
TEACHING ACTIVITY
Since 2000 she gives classes on the following courses at the University of Brescia:

- "Light alloys" (master degree, since 2019);

- “Technical requirements for products – module I” (Bachelor Degree in Industrial, course active from 2008 to 2012);
- “Laboratory of product engineering – module II” (Bachelor Degree, course active from 2008 to 2012);
- “Metallurgical technologies, die-casting processes and plants” (Mechanical Engineering Diploma, course closed in 2004),

Correlation between microstructure and performance of non-ferrous alloys: characterization, mainly of aluminum and zinc alloys, aimed at determining the effect of the microstructure, induced by the production process as well as by post treatments, on the performance of the product.
Study and characterization of alloys and components for additive manufacturing: research aimed at the characterization of components obtained by additive manufacturing (mainly in Al or Ti alloys) for the identification of the correlation between microstructure, defects, surface characteristics and product performance. Studies also focus on the optimization of heat treatments and the design of innovative treatments
Study and characterization of foundry processes and alloys: study that is carried out considering the different aspects related to the foundry, that is the technological and metallurgical one, concentrating above all on the properties of foundry alloys, their pre and post treatments as well as on the defects formation, correlating the performances to the quality of the castings associated with the specific foundry process. Among the most investigated research topics: semi-solid casting and diecasting
Study of the degradation and failure phenomena of metal components: analysis of the behavior of metals & alloys under corrosion, wear, fatigue, creep, cavitation, etc., with the aim of interpreting the damage mechanism as a function of the microstructure of the part.
Study of the rheological behavior of metal alloys in the liquid and semi-solid state: analysis of the rheological properties, mainly of non-ferrous aluminum-based alloys, with varying shear stress applied in the semi-solid phase, with a view to modeling the behavior of the material. Research in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University and GUtech Muscat University
