Curriculum Vitae

Rosaria Ingrassia

PRESENT POSITION:
Researcher of Biochemistry, Biotechnology Section, BIO/10, Dept. Molecular and Translational Medicine, ex medical School, University of Brescia-Italy.

PREGRESSED POSITIONS:
2000: Researcher, BIO/10-Biochimichemistry, Dept. Molecular and Translational Medicine, ex medical School, University of Brescia-Italy.

1997-2000:visiting scientist at the Learning Neurobiology Laboratory, DIBIT; Scientific Institute Hospital San Raffaele, Milano.

1991-1999:research assistant, 7th level, Inst. Chemistry and Proped. Biochemistry, Medical School, University of Brescia.

1991: Specialization in Biochemistry and Clinical Chemicstry, Medical School, University of Brescia.

1988-1990:visitor fellow at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Heidelberg, Germany, Gene Expression, Prof.R. Di Lauro.

1986-1988:research fellow at Inst. Chemistry and Proped. Biochemistry, Medical School, University of Brescia.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE:
1984-1986: PhD. Degree in Biology, with experimental thesis in Neuroendocrinology, about the hypotalamus-hypophysis axis and Somatocrinin compromission during aging in rat.

1988-1990: tissue-specific gene expression, in the laboratory of Prof. Roberto Di Lauro, at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory of Heidelberg. She studied the molecular aspects of thyroid hormones biosynthesis and the tissue specific expression of Thyroid transcription factors related to TTF-1. She cloned the product of alternative splicing of Thyroglobulin and produced a mini-gene for Tg expression as hypothesis of gene therapy for innate hypothyroidism.

1991-1994:she studied the transcriptional regulation by c/EBPs transcription family of the inflammation acute phase gene alpha-1-acid glycoprotein at the Chemistry Institute, Medical School, University of Brescia.

1994-1996, she collaborated with C.ALberini to the isolation of c/EBP beta by expression library screening of rat cerebellum and hippocampus, as mammalian homolog of Aplysia c/EBP, previously cloned in the laboratory of E.Kandel at Columbia University, involved in Long Term synaptic plasticity (LTP).

1997-2000: visiting scientist at DIBIT, Scientific Institute Hospital S.Raffaele, Milano. She studied the molecular mechanisms of synaptic transmission on the model of primary rat hippocampal co-cultures. With a molecular approach she cloned immunoglobulin domains specific against the luminal peptide of Synaptotagmin-I, in order to visualize the exo-endocytotic activity at single synapse. During these years her work was involved in grants from European Community.

2001-2008: University of Brescia. She worked on the molecular mechanisms of neuroferritinopaty and produced, for the Telethon project financed to Prof.Arosio, a three LoxP sites targeting vector to establish a knockin/knockout mice model of hereditary neuroferritinoapthy.

2008-2013: she works at the Neuroscience Excellence Institute, Medical School of Brescia, about the molecular mechanisms responsible of neurodegenerative processes in the CNS. She studied the link between the regulation of the ferrous iron transporter 1B/(-)IRE DMT1 and the early epigenetic activation of the post-ischemic brain injury, both in vitro and in vivo, and in the Parkinsonism mice model knockout for c-Rel.

2013 at present: she studies the role of the ferrous iron transporter DMT1 in the Neurodegeneration with Brain Iron Accumulation, type 5 (NBIA5/BPAN) in human fibroblasts of BPAN affected patients.

§ Rosaria Ingrassia has attended discussing her results to numerous national and international meeting and advanced courses, such as the Jacques Monod Conferences, EMBO Courses, Cold Spring Harbor meetings, Armenise-Harvard Foundation and International Summer School “Occupational and environmental determinants of disease” held at the University of Brescia, 2011.
§ She was also invited in the teaching staff of EMBO Courses on “DNA-protein interaction”.

§ She developed original research products in the field of biomarkers for sporadic Neurodegenerative Diseases.

§ The University of Brescia attributed the “Una Tantum” Award in 2012.

§ She was proponent of her research to competitive international and national grants as NBIA Disorders Association, MDBR- Orphan Disease Center-University of Pennsylavania, Telethon Explorative grants, Associazione Italiana Sindromi Neurodegenerative da Accumulo di Ferro (AISNAF).

§Member of the EMBL Alumni Association, 2005-at present.
§Member of the International Bioiron Society, 2008-at present.
§Member of the International Movement Disorder Society, 2024-at present.

§Involved in peer-reviewing process for several international scientific Journals.
