PLIZZARI Giovanni

Prof. Giovanni Plizzari is Full Professor of Structural Engineering (since 2001) and is in service at the DICATAM Department of the University of Brescia (since 2005). From November 2010 to October 2020 was Chair of the Department DICATAM of the University of Brescia. From November 2020 he is Director of the laboratory for testing materials. Prof. Plizzari gave courses in the field of structural engineering. Prof. Plizzari has participated in many committees for selecting Assistant, Associate and Full Professors, in Italy and abroad. For about 25 years, the scientific activity has mainly concerned the structural applications of fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC), with particular reference to shear in beams, industrial flooring, tunnel linings as ell as to cracking phenomena and durability of FRC structures. The research also dealt with the structural rehabilitation of masonry and concrete structures. Finally, he studied the possibility replacing the natural aggregates of the structural concrete with recycling materials, towards a circular economy. Prof. Plizzari is reviewer of different international scientific journals. Since 2012 he has been Associate Editor and since 2018 Deputy Editor in Chief of the RILEM Materials and Structures magazine. He actively attends the most important International Conferences where he frequently was member of the scientific committee, chaired work sessions or held various invited talks. He has organized several national or international conferences. Prof. Plizzari was a member of several normative or pre-normative commissions and collaborates with the Italian Higher Council of Public Works as an expert. He is now Vice President of the national association CTE (College of Building Industrialization Technicians). He is a member of ASCE, ACI, RILEM, fib, IABSE, AICAP and SIG. He has been and is currently principal investigator of numerous research projects on the structural applications of high-performance concrete.
