Curriculum Vitae

He is since 2001 full professor in "Scienza delle Costruzioni" (Structural Mechanics) at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Brescia. Currently gives a course in "Statics" and a course in "Solid Mechanics" to the Civil Engineering students and carries out his research activity at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Brescia. He graduated "cum laude" in 1983 at the Politecnico di Milano in Structural Engineering. From 1991 to 1998 he was assistant professor (researcher) at the University of Brescia. From 1998 to 2001 he was associated professor at the University of Brescia. He was visiting professor at the Division of Engineering of Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island (U.S.A.), at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering of the University of Colorado at Boulder, Boulder, Colorado (U.S.A.), at the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, California (U.S.A.). He is author or co-author of 60 papers, 28 of which published on international journals. His main research areas concern theoretical and computational mechanics in material and structural mechanics. Among his research subjects: boundary element methods; dynamic analysis of finite strain rigid-plastic continua; variational formulations of non-linear problems; analysis of viscoelastic and viscoplastic continua; extremal formulations of non holonomic elastoplastic problem; analysis of the structural chaotic behaviour; analysis of beams under non-conservative loads; experimental analysis of shell structures; computational and experimental analysis of cement-mortar specimens; analysis of the mechanical properties of syntactic foams; problems of biomechanics.
