Delirium: lost in connection.

Abstract:
Delirium is recognized as a common complication of critical illness affecting up to 80% of mechanically ventilated patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), and an independent predictor of 6-month mortality and longer hospital stay. Pathogenesis of delirium is poorly
known. Neuronal damage is well documented, but white matter disruption is also found.
