Abstract:
The prostate is the largest gland annexed to the male reproductive system and is made up of a glandular and stromal component. The former, as described by McNeal, can be subdivided into three zones: central, transition and peripheral. The nonglandular part consists of the periprostatic sphincter, the anterior connective tissue and the prostatic capsule. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Milan.
