The research group that deals with Archaeometallurgy has among its purposes to use methods of engineering investigation as archaeology complement in the study of archaeological finds in the reconstruction of the historical environment. Investigation methods developed for the study of new materials and production techniques can be effectively used in the analysis of pre-industrial artifacts. The research is mainly focusing on the development of specific skills regarding the metallurgical technologies used by the Lombards in the period of their establishment on the territory of Brescia, the understanding of mutual influence with the indigenous productive activities developed independently or under the Roman influence and the study of ancient weapons and their production. The principal objective is to contribute to the characterization of the ancient metallurgical treatment processes used especially in the territory of Brescia for the production of iron, copper and metal alloys by applying a reverse engineering method.
