The research activities aim to evaluate the applications in the forensic field of the various laboratory investigations carried out at the Institute of Forensic Medicine of Brescia. In particular, research activities in the forensic toxicology lab are directed towards the development of new analytical methods for the determination and quantification of new xenobiotics in biological samples different to blood and urine. The Forensic Genetics lab is involved in defining allelic frequencies of STR markers in reference populations, as well as in the mRNA analysis in order to define the age of a specific subject starting from traces of biological material. The forensic histopathology laboratory is carrying out research on sudden cardiac death and on the determination of the time of production of traumatic lesions.
