Alberto Zucchelli is Associate Professor at the University of Brescia, Department of Clinical and Experimental Sciences, a position he has held since 1 October 2025. He previously served at the same University as a fixed-term researcher, type B, from 2022 to 2025, and as a research fellow from 2021 to 2022. His academic training includes a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Brescia, awarded with honours, a specialization in Geriatrics, also awarded with honours, and a PhD in Technology for Health, with a thesis focused on methodological, technological, and metric advances in the assessment of physical function in older persons.
His clinical and scientific background lies primarily in geriatrics, epidemiology, and research methodology. He completed periods of advanced training and research at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, where he attended courses in ageing epidemiology, biostatistics, and scientific writing, and served first as Visiting Researcher and later as Research Coordinator at the Aging Research Center. His clinical experience includes work as a resident physician in Geriatrics, as a medical doctor in a COVID unit, and as a substitute general practitioner.
His scientific activity mainly focuses on clinical geriatrics, ageing epidemiology, frailty, multimorbidity, delirium, physical function, and clinical outcomes in older adults. His research has addressed, among other topics, frailty as a predictor of mortality and survival, the impact of multimorbidity on healthcare outcomes, the development of predictive indices using statistical and computational approaches, delirium in older hospitalized patients, and the clinical consequences of COVID-19 in older populations.
He has contributed to educational and institutional activities within the Italian Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics, serving as tutor for the Society’s Epidemiology and Statistics Course and as coordinator of the “training” working group of the SIGG Young Epidemiologists. He also collaborated on national surveys promoted by Italia Longeva in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Health. His technical skills include statistical analysis with R, use of the Microsoft Office suite, and management of REDCap platforms. He has advanced proficiency in English.
