BONOMI Germano

After a brilliant Academic career (he graduated at the University of Pavia cum Laude and got the PhD from the same University) he started his research in the field of particle physics in experiments at the Fermi National Laboratory in the USA, close to Chicago. He then moved to his hometown, at the University of Brescia, for his first post-doc, starting to work in the Antimatter field. From 2002 to 2004 he was granted a Research Fellowship at CERN, where he continued his studies in the ATHENA collaboration at the Antiproton Decelerator (AD) facility, also called Antimatter factory. During this period, he participated in the production of the first cold anti-hydrogen atoms, important result that was published in Nature. Back to Brescia he continued his work and signed the proposal for another experiment at the CERN AD, AEgIS, which is now operating and is aiming to measure the gravitational interaction between matter and anti-matter. He is now the Chairman of the Board of this collaboration. Recently he joined the ALICE collaboration at CERN. In parallel with the activities in fundamental physics, he also participated in various European Projects related to applications of nuclear techniques in the fields of security and safety. In particular, in the last decade, he is investigating the possibility to use the cosmic rays for civil applications.
