Abstract:
Digitalisation in architectural restoration has resulted in a profound shift in how we manage and preserve
our historical heritage. However, managing this change requires careful management, taking
into account numerous aspects.
One of the biggest challenges is the lack of standardization in the field of digitization. This characteristic
can hinder collaboration and interoperability between different technologies and software.
Consequently, careful planning of the conservation process is necessary to ensure that digitisation becomes
a valuable resource in the restoration process. The key concept is planned preservation, which
highlights the importance of not losing accumulated knowledge over time.
The key concept is planned preservation, which highlights the importance of not losing accumulated
knowledge over time. However, managing digital data requires special care because mistakes can result
in costly format conversions and the loss of valuable information. Despite these risks, electronic
tools offer significant advantages for improving the overall efficiency of the architectural restoration
process. They facilitate coordinated management and foster interdisciplinary collaboration among
professionals.
An application of digitisation to a property of the Soprintendenza della Valle d’Aosta provides a concrete
example of how it can improve heritage conservation.
In this case, using tools like Building Information Modeling (BIM) has demonstrated the potential
to streamline the restoration process, improve data management, and facilitate collaboration among
multidisciplinary teams.
